The "Indian Head" Pattern
1. The circles marked (A) should touch the four corners of the screen for
the correct size and aspect ratio.
2. The circles marked (A), (B), and (C) are used to check vertical and
horizontal linearity.
3. All sections of the grey scale marked (D) should be sharp and distinct.
These check contrast and brightness.
4. Focus is checked using the small circles in the center pattern as well
as the circles (A) in all four corners.
5. Vertical resolution is checked using the horizontal wedges marked (E).
6. Horizontal resolution is checked using the vertical wedges marked (F).
(Note that the last zero is omitted on the calibration numbers near the
resolution wedges. Therefore, "20" actually means "200.")
7. Interlacing is checked using the diagonal lines marker. (G).
8. Low frequency phase shift is checked using the heavy horizontal lines
marked (H).
9. "Ringing" or damped oscillations are checked by the groups of lines
marked (I).
