The picture of the automation unit (from the 4-color brochure) has numbers on it indicating its place in the system. Schafer designated number 9 as a unit that would deadroll a piece of music at a prescribed time for the purposes of joining a network newscast. The network would be on position 10.

KTAR-FM was not on a network, but the news people prepared a newscast to be played at twenty before the hour mainly in morning and afternoon drive, and every few hours on the weekend.

Having three random select reel machines allowed the station to triple spot.
